Mr. Sachitanandsing Balgobin

Mr. Sachitanandsing Balgobin, affectionately known as Eden Balgobin, was a visionary educator whose passion for learning and unwavering commitment to excellence led to the establishment of Eden College in 1951. Beginning with only a handful of students in a modest garage in Rose Hill, he laid the foundation for what would become one of Mauritius’ most respected educational institutions. Guided by the belief that education should be accessible to all while maintaining the highest standards, he devoted his life to nurturing generations of students and inspiring them to strive for success.

Beyond his dedication to education, Mr. Balgobin was a passionate lover of music. He held a deep admiration for the legendary Indian playback singer Mukesh and shared a close friendship with him. Such was their bond that Mr. Balgobin and his wife were present in the auditorium in the United States for a private concert tour when the renowned singer passed away unexpectedly. In recognition of their friendship and mutual admiration, Mr. Balgobin’s name was featured alongside that of Mukesh in the second row of the Hall of Fame. He was equally captivated by the soothing melodies of the sitar, his favourite musical instrument, and greatly admired the world-renowned sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. His appreciation for Indian classical music was so profound that he had the privilege of meeting Ravi Shankar’s son, reflecting a lifelong passion that complemented his rich cultural and educational legacy.

Today, the enduring values of knowledge, culture, and excellence championed by Mr. Sachitanandsing Balgobin continue to guide and inspire the entire Eden College family.
