Mrs Lalita Balgobin (GOSK)

As we mark the 75th anniversary of our schools, I am filled with deep reflection and gratitude. What began in 1951 as a vision to make education accessible to those who could not otherwise afford it has grown into a community that has shaped the lives of thousands of students across our island.

My late husband, our founder, devoted his life not only to building schools but to creating opportunities for generations of students. Following his passing in 1983, I embraced the responsibility of continuing his vision with a deep sense of purpose and commitment. For four decades, I have had the privilege of serving alongside devoted educators, staff, and administrators who share a common belief in the transformative power of education.

Together, we have witnessed generations of students walk through our doors with hope and leave with purpose. Many have gone on to contribute meaningfully to society, and it is in their achievements that we find our greatest reward.

This milestone is not only a celebration of the past, but a reminder of the responsibility we carry into the future. The world continues to change, but our founding principle remains the same: to provide quality education with integrity, inclusiveness, and compassion.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all those who have been part of this journey, our teachers, staff, students, parents, and well wishers. Your commitment has sustained and strengthened these institutions over the years.

It is my sincere hope that these colleges will continue to uphold the values on which they were founded, and remain places where discipline, dedication, and opportunity come together to shape responsible and capable individuals for generations to come.

This milestone is not only a celebration of its rich history and achievements, but also a reaffirmation of the enduring vision, values, and legacy that will continue to guide the Eden Colleges journey into the future.

I would also like to express my deepest and most sincere appreciation to the team behind this 75th anniversary initiative, led by Mr. Ramsahye, for their vision, dedication, and tireless efforts in bringing this commemorative magazine and website to life. Their unwavering commitment, diligence, and genuine devotion to the institution are truly commendable, and their meaningful work stands as a testament to the care and excellence they bring to all that they undertake.

Let us honor Mr and Mrs Balgobin moto.

Let knowledge Grow

Happy 75th Anniversary to Eden Colleges.

Seventy-five years ago, in 1951, a group of students gathered in a small classroom in Rosehill marking the birth of our school. What began as a modest gesture then was part of a much greater vision of our founder, Eden Balgobin, whose name still embodies and inspires the spirit of our school.
A vision to widen the circle of knowledge and opportunities for all Mauritians, to enable everyone whatever their class or creed to have access to education, to quench their thirst for learning, to instill the values of integrity, discipline and perseverance; and to empower students to climb the steep ladder to improve their lives and those of their families while contributing to the development of our country.
Today we are proud to see that our schools have fulfilled the mission set by our founder. Across every sector of society, Edonians are doing just that, contributing to the building and betterment of our nation.
Not only the more familiar names that we all know of in the field of business, politics, public and private sectors but also, all these unsung heroes that make a difference to our daily lives.
It has been a challenging yet rewarding journey.
All of this would not have been possible without the active collaboration of our students, their parents as well as our teaching and non-teaching staff and the authorities.
We pay tribute to all of you for your trust, loyalty, dedication and contributions over the past seventy-five years.
After the sad demise of our founder, Mrs Lalita Balgobin, stood tall and strong during challenging times. She invested herself fully in the school, upholding our high standards and delivering on the mission set by her beloved husband, our late father, in a rapidly evolving landscape.
She kept paving the way for the last 42 years through her unflinching dedication towards this legacy.
We the children now work closely with the schools’ management to uphold and advance this legacy.
The journey our founder set the school on seventy-five years ago is a never-ending one. This is the infinite beauty of knowledge, learning and inclusiveness, specially in today’s fast changing world. We hope that the website that we are launching will become an interactive tool to further this mission.
There will be many more challenges ahead
There will be many more opportunities ahead
Together, as a family, we can face and embrace them.
Just as we have done over the past seventy-five years.
Let us continue learning, collaborating, and bettering ourselves together.
Mr. Omkrishna RAMSAHYE
Manager
The conceptualization and launching of our school’s website mark a significant milestone in our journey towards embracing innovation and strengthening communication with our educational community.
In today’s digitally driven world, it has become essential for institutions to extend their presence beyond physical boundaries. This website has been thoughtfully designed as a platform to reflect the achievements, aspirations and ethos of Eden College Boys. It will serve as a window through which students, parents, staff and the wider community can remain informed, engaged and connected. It will provide access to important information, academic resources, announcements and highlights of school life, thereby fostering greater transparency and interaction. As Manager, I encourage members of our school community to make full use of this platform and contribute to its growth by sharing feedback and ideas. This significant achievement is a reflection of the commitment to progress, innovation and continuous development of our school by the Founder of Eden Colleges, late Mr. Sachitananndsing Balgobin whose noble legacy was carried forward with unwavering commitment, grace and resilience by Mrs. L. Balgobin. Their willingness to invest in such initiatives stand as a testament of their forward thinking and leadership to providing our students and staff with opportunities aligned with the demands of our modern world.
I seize this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to Mrs. L. Balgobin and family for their support and vision that have made the realization of this website possible. It will be a step forward in building a more inclusive, accessible and progressive learning environment for all.
